Health Education and Community Outreach
According to the 2001 Program Guidelines for Project Grants for Family Planning Services from the United States Department of Health and Human Services “community education should serve to enhance community understanding of the objectives of the project, make known the availability of services to potential clients, and encourage continued participation by persons to whom family planning may be beneficial.”
We strive to improve the health of individuals and communities by partnering with community based organizations (CBOs), faith based organizations (FBOs) and other public health providers that work with vulnerable or at risk populations. The community education program also promotes individual and community health by emphasizing family planning and related preventive health services for hard to reach populations, such as the uninsured and underinsured individuals, males, persons with limited English proficiency, adolescents and other vulnerable or at risk populations. Greene County Family Planning encourages the participation of families, parents, and/or other adults in the role of parents in the decision of minors to seek family planning services, including activities that promote positive family relationships.
According to our Program Administrator “We have a superb Health Educator who has become a much sought after speaker in all six of our school districts, at the local community college and at community agencies.” Greene County Family Planning has one full time health educator who manages the community, school and clinic education programs. Press releases, bulletin boards, handouts, easel displays, and group presentations in all of the school districts and in a variety of community organizations are all methods that are used to meet the above mentioned goals.
